The Ingenuity Of A Toddler

Hey! Hey! Hey! How are you doing? How was your 3 day weekend? Ours went well, but it was bittersweet because my husband went back to work today. So, yesterday was our “last” day on a family staycation. 😏. I enjoyed having my husband home and definitely liked the option to “phone a friend” when I needed some help.  However, our first day as a trio as oppose to a duo has been going well.  I started back with my homeschooling today.

We go to “school” in the morning because my little guy sleeps fairly well in the AM and she can get some undivided attention, which she enjoys! Out of our “school” activites, I wanted to share my listening activity with you BUT during our colors activity, my firecracker created a NEW activity that I could not resist but to share. If a toddler created it, other toddlers should like it to right? Lol.
First, we were in the middle of doing a previous activity that I created, Rapper’s Delight Colors”

Check out my previous blog post explaining the above and below activity.

When we started using the coloring sheets of the activity, my daughter noticed that the triangular crayons reminded her of train cars.  So, she wanted to create a “train” with the crayons.

 Supplies:

  1. Triangular crayons (I picked up this pack at Target)
  •       Cut/break into various different pieces of differing lengths (so ours broke organically lol…).
  •       Remove the paper (optional)

Activity Instructions:

  1. Call out a color (red, blue, green, etc..)
  2. Have your tot place that color as the first car of the train
  3. Call out another call
  4. Have your little one “connect” it to the first train car
  5. Repeat and HAVE FUN!
  •     Instead of calling out a color, you could have your child pick the colors and just ask them what color it is.

Optional Reading Activity

  • I followed up our “train” activity with a book

Does this activity sound fun? Do you think you will try it? If so, please share! Are there any other train books that you have in your collection that we could read our next time creating our train? I hope you liked learning this activity.
Enjoy!
