… “I said a hip…hop..a hippie… HAPPY HIP HOP HUMP DAY

Well, hello! HAPPY HIP HOP HUMP DAY! How are you? Its been awhile since we last talked?  Anything exciting happen?  A lot of exciting things have been happening to me J First, let me say, thanks for stopping by and taking the time to read my blog, the love and support is WONDERFUL and very humbling! And I seriously do APPRECIATE IT! The feedback that I have received helps me fight through those negative thoughts that can arise, but let’s keep this positive!! Secondly, I actually bought diapers for the newest addition yesterday, which is EXCITING! I am about to have another little ittle wittle baby! (like this is real…this is really happening)… I am beyond excited (and nervous and freaking out…aaahh! I am responsible for 2 kids… how do I make the surprised/shock emoji face on here!).  Lastly, I am excited to share my first Hip Hop Infusion learning activity!!

So, this all started because I got really sick of getting baby and toddler tunes stuck in my head… I could care less about how many ants go marching or a tisket a tasket (first off…what are those…) or Old MacDonald.  So, I started to rap to my daughter, especially around dinner time! Getting a 10 month old to eat can be a daunting task (but you already know that)… One random day, I just busted out with “I said a hip hop, hippie to the hippie” and then I was determined to learn the song and just rap it at dinner time (but that song is like 15 minutes long) BUT after listening to some of the lyrics, I said hey! Some of this could be teachable and a win-win… I get an awesome song stuck in my head and she learns something! Plus, if I want my daughter to be an awesome hip hop connoisseur like myself, she has to start her hip hop knowledge from the beginning and The SugarHill Gang’s Rapper’s Delight is the BEST beginning! Eh wahla, Hip Hop Infusion learning! So, I created little snippets of the song that were child appropriate and teachable.  This installment of Rapper’s Delight deals with COLORS!

Sounds funny right…how can Rapper’s Delight teach my child colors… well, if you click on my YouTube video

Rapper’s Delight Colors Video

(Let me say, that I am NOT a visual technologist lol.  I am not an expert in making videos.. I like the video but I know it could include way more bells and whistles… I am not there yet, give me time lol.  Also, I would rather the little ones listen and not have such visual stimulation…i.e…limiting tv time) I have basically looped a section where the colors are shouted out.

So, let’s review what you need to do (or what I did lol… you can do whatever you would like with this activity and if it is different, please do not hesitate to share)

Instructions

  1. Review the song by yourself a few times to so you can rap the colors
  2. Get your little really excited about learning colors ( I always make learning sound so much fun! “We are gonna dance and learn colors, do you want to dance and learn colors”
  3. This step may vary
    1. Play the song and dance around while repeating the names of the colors
    2. Use the coloring sheets attached and when you hear a color, use a crayon of that color.
      1. You could have the coloring sheet already filled with the colors and when you hear a color in the song, have your little one point to the color.  The possibilities are endless, so just have fun and enjoy, What I did was all of the above and made sure I rapped the colors along with the song…it gets really catchy after a while!
  4. Comment below with how things went for you!!

Rapper’s Delight Coloring Sheets

We have done this a couple of times! She always says “hello” after he says hello in the song.  Its kind of funny.  She loves to dance to it as well.  Also, we did it again this week, just so I could refresh my memory and the next day, she said “Mommy, your eyes are brown.”  I was so happy and amazed.  She knows red, blue, green, white, and pink.  So, when she said brown, I knew our lesson worked!

Also, in the spirit of doing everything in Spanish too, I have included with the coloring sheets how to say the colors in Spanish (if you want). I have also included a coloring sheet that includes different shapes if you want to get extra fancy!

HAPPY HIP HOP HUMP DAY! I hope you and your little one can learn some colors, groove to an awesome tune, and HAVE FUN! Please, tell me how it goes!
