History Smashers: The Mayflower Book Review

A great book to have on your bookshelf during November is HISTORY SMASHERS: The Mayflower by Kate Messer with illustrations by Dylan Meconis.

HISTORY SMASHERS is very detailed, thoroughly researched, and amusing exploration into the story of the Mayflower. It gives a complete and factual history of the people that were on the Mayflower and their journey to America.

Did you know that during their lifetime, they were not called Pilgrims?

Did you know Marilyn Monroe and some US Presidents are descendants of people that were on the Mayflower?

Have you ever wondered about the Native people that were already in the United States prior to the pilgrims arrival? What the land was called prior to colonization?

This book answer all of these questions and so much more!

This is a chapter book and 181 pages, so if you want to use this as a read aloud with your kiddos, it will take a few nights. The book is written for children so the text is engaging and relatable to young readers. Of course, there is an entire chapter reading the First Thanksgiving.

I encourage you have this book on your bookshelf to truly understand the story of the people who arrived to what is now considered the United States on the Mayflower.

We learned a lot of little known facts and had a lot of fun time doing it with this book. The illustrations were fun and exciting too.

You can pick up a copy here and support an independent bookstore!

Enjoy!
