MARY CAN by Mary J. Blige- Picture Book Review

The publication of this picture book is such a full circle moment for me. It feels so surreal. I was nine years old when the debut album of THE MARY J BLIGE was released and I get to share this picture book with my nine year old daughter now!!

What’s the 411? started my lifelong love for Hip Hop and R&B. I am honored to be able to share more of her world with my children. 😉 Mary J. Blige’s music is an integral part of my life and I am able to share a piece of me through this book with my kiddos which has been fun.

MARY CAN is an inspirational book that is perfect for children that hear “NO!” from grown ups. It is a picture book that will affirm and encourage kids to keep going despite a lack of encouragement from others.

MARY CAN follows a young Mary that hears about all of the things she “can’t” do. Of all of the “can’t” Mary hears, the one that she is determined to turn into a can is becoming a singer.

Through hard work, determination, and a loving family MARY CAN achieve her dream of becoming a singer.

I recommend this book for every book shelf. Children will face negativity and people saying all of the things they can’t do. This book shows that despite an adult saying ‘no’; a yes is definitely possible is you believe in your dream. Work hard to achieve it and not give up. This book highlights an important lesson that is often overlooked which is dealing negative people and dream crushers. Negativity is encountered throughout life, so it is important to teach children early how to deal with it. Make sure to pick this book at your local bookstore or click here

Thanks for reading!

Enjoy!
